History

Meurice Garment Care has been a fixture in New York for over sixty years, first opening its doors at its 31 University Place location in 1948. Larry Edelman bought the store in 1961 - the same year current president Wayne Edelman was born. In those days, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt was a regular client – Larry remembers her dropping by to have silk stockings repaired. Larry’s dedication to his clients and relentless focus on cleaning perfection made Meurice a Greenwich Village icon.

In the mid 1980’s, Wayne took the reins and transformed Meurice from a neighborhood cleaner into a nationally-known garment care specialist with clientele from around the globe. Wayne invested heavily in technology to develop a range of innovative techniques and expanded Meurice’s retail presence. Meurice operates in four locations in the NYC metro area – two in New York City, one in the Bronx and another on Long Island, nearby Manhasset’s Miracle Mile.

Meurice’s client list includes legendary fashion houses Prada, Gucci, Loro Piana and Hermès, specialty auction houses Christie's and Sotheby's along with scores of New Yorkers who count on Meurice to look their best. Ever want more from your cleaner? Get in touch with us today.
